Comparison

RAD-140 vs LGD-4033

The two strongest SARMs for muscle and strength — compared side by side.

Quick answer

LGD-4033 produces stronger lean mass gains and is the better choice for a dedicated bulk. RAD-140 gives better strength-to-size ratio, carries slightly less suppression at equivalent doses, and has neuroprotective properties that make it more interesting for long-term use. Neither is a beginner compound — both require PCT.

Mechanism differences

Both RAD-140 and LGD-4033 are selective androgen receptor modulators — they bind to androgen receptors in muscle and bone with high affinity while theoretically sparing other tissues like the prostate and cardiovascular system. The selectivity is what separates SARMs from traditional anabolic steroids.

LGD-4033 has a higher binding affinity to the androgen receptor than RAD-140, which is the primary reason it produces more dramatic lean mass gains. It is the closest thing to a mild anabolic steroid in the SARM category, which is both its appeal and its risk — the stronger the anabolic effect, the stronger the suppression of your natural testosterone.

RAD-140 has a unique property not shared by LGD-4033 — neuroprotective effects. Early research suggests RAD-140 may protect brain cells and even be studied for neurodegenerative conditions. This doesn't make it safer necessarily, but it is a genuinely interesting pharmacological difference that makes RAD-140 more appealing to users interested in long-term cognitive health alongside physique goals.

Gains comparison

In terms of raw lean mass gained in an 8-10 week cycle, LGD-4033 consistently edges out RAD-140 in community reports. A typical LGD cycle at 10mg/day produces 8-12 lbs of lean mass depending on diet and training. A RAD-140 cycle at 15-20mg/day typically produces 6-10 lbs of lean mass with less water weight.

The distinction matters because LGD gains include more water retention than RAD-140, meaning the scale moves more on LGD but the mirror doesn't always look proportionally better. RAD-140 users typically report cleaner, drier gains with better strength-to-bodyweight improvement — important for athletes and anyone focused on performance rather than mass.

Suppression and recovery

Both compounds suppress natural testosterone production and require post-cycle therapy. This is non-negotiable — do not run either compound without planning your PCT before you start.

LGD-4033 is more suppressive than RAD-140 at typical doses. Users report testosterone suppression to below-range levels within 3-4 weeks on LGD at 10mg/day. RAD-140 at 10-15mg/day produces meaningful suppression but typically less severe. Both recover with a proper Nolvadex (tamoxifen) PCT at 20mg/day for 4-6 weeks.

Get bloodwork before your cycle and 1 week after your PCT ends. Testosterone total, free testosterone, LH, and FSH at minimum. Do not skip this — suppression that doesn't resolve on its own requires medical attention.

Which should you choose?

Goal: Maximum lean mass gain on a bulk

LGD-4033 at 5-10mg/day

Strongest mass SARM available, closest to mild steroids

Goal: Strength gains with minimal size increase

RAD-140 at 10-15mg/day

Better strength-to-size ratio, cleaner gains

Goal: Body recomposition — lose fat while gaining muscle

RAD-140 at 10mg/day

Drier compound works better in a slight caloric deficit

Goal: First SARM cycle

Neither — start with Ostarine

Both RAD and LGD are intermediate compounds. Run Ostarine at 10mg first to understand how your body responds to SARMs.

Legal status and testing

Both RAD-140 and LGD-4033 are research chemicals — legal to purchase but not approved by the FDA for human use. Both are banned by WADA, the World Anti-Doping Agency. If you compete in any tested sport at any level, both will cause a positive test. LGD-4033 has caused multiple high-profile positive tests at trace amounts, meaning contamination from low-quality products can result in a positive even without intentional use. Buy only from vendors with third-party COA testing and batch numbers.

Disclaimer: RAD-140 and LGD-4033 are research chemicals not approved by the FDA for human use. Both suppress natural testosterone and require PCT. Get bloodwork before and after any SARM cycle. Consult a healthcare professional before use.
